I cannot define myself as an artist without emphasizing the importance of my silhouette cuttings. That body of work is so extensive, led to so many great adventures and so altered my perceptions that my works in other mediums is dwarfed in comparison. Even my own biography is overshadowed by the silhouettes that took on a life of their own - and I can actually say when I cut silhouettes I feel like a medium with a pair of scissors in my hands. Regardless, I still love to paint portraits, especially of dogs and I've included a handful for your viewing pleasure.
Since this is a bit of a biography I will add that I learned how to cut by cutting out paper dolls from the old McCall's magazine that arrived monthly in our family mailbox in the early fifties. My silhouettes evolved naturally when as an adult I no longer needed defined drawn outlines and began freehand cuttings like a mature bike rider no longer needs training wheels.
